Electrohydraulic Actuators

Got Motion works directly with Magnet-Schultz of America (MSA), a leading manufacturer of standard and specialty Solenoids, Electromagnetic and Electromechanical devices, and Value-Added Assemblies.

In the rapidly changing world of hydraulics, MSA utilizes its marketplace knowledge and proven engineering and manufacturing expertise to provide full-service Hydraulic Actuators for both mobile and industrial applications. Their various reference designs can be tailored to precisely meet your system’s performance requirements.

Hydraulic Solenoid Actuators (Tubes, Coils and Assemblies)

MSA offers three Hydraulic Solenoid Actuator reference design sizes. Because most applications require unique performance characteristics, we custom engineer each Actuator Tube and/or Coil to exactly meet your application’s requirements.

C-Frame (U-Frame) Solenoids

C-Frame Solenoids are the most straightforward solenoid design, providing the greatest economic value, while operating at the most basic magnetic performance level. MSA offers eleven (11) different C-Frame Solenoid reference designs

HAZ-LOC® Solenoids

Engineered for safety critical markets, this family of Electrohydraulic Coils is designed, tested and certified for worldwide use in hazardous and volatile location environments—including gas and dust atmospheres present in petroleum exploration and production, chemical processing, and facilities involving the transfer and storage of grain or other dry materials

The HAZ-LOC coil family is designed to be mounted on any manufacturer’s hydraulic valve that utilizes actuator pressure tube diameters of 13mm, 16mm, 19mm and/or 22mm. Standard voltages are 12 and 24 VDC, and 120 VAC. An internal bridge rectifier enables the use of AC voltage(s). An integrated junction box provides ease of electrical connection, while maintaining explosion proof characteristics. All HAZ-LOC coils will be rated IP-68 for water and dust ingression.

Operating below 135 degrees C (T4 rating), when full certification is concluded in June-2014, HAZ-LOC will offer explosion proof capability and will meet NEC500, NEC505, CEC/CSA, ATEX and IECEx certifications and ratings.

MSA’s collaborative innovation approach is perfectly suited to design and achieve certification for customized derivatives of the original HAZ-LOC coil family, enabling the resulting new coil to interface with customer specific actuator tube diameters and valve configurations. The product family is also adaptable to non-hydraulic valve applications.

SPOOL LOCK® Solenoids

SPOOL LOCK Solenoids block the movement of the spool in a hydraulic valve. MSA offers a reference design that can be tailored to fit your application

Increased user safety and system reliability are important benefits of MSA’s SPOOL LOCK Solenoids. Specifically designed to meet the rigors of hydraulic applications, this Solenoid includes an over-molded coil and wire-lead grommet (providing IP65 water and dust ingression protection), and a corrosion resistant spring and external plating.

A SPOOL LOCK Solenoid is mounted on a hydraulic valve where it can encounter a special groove in the valve’s spool. When the SPOOL LOCK coil is energized, the plunger pulls-in, allowing free movement of the spool. When de-energized, the spring inside the SPOOL LOCK Solenoid moves the plunger into the spool groove, blocking the movement of the spool.

The SPOOL LOCK Solenoid is a fail-safe device—if electrical power is removed from the coil (by one of multiple sensors that are mounted throughout a piece of equipment), the plunger will immediately move to lock the valve.

Customizable design features of MSA’s SPOOL LOCK Solenoid reference design include:

  • Coil voltage
  • Mounting threads
  • Length of lead wires and type of connector

SPOOL LOCK Solenoids are commonly used on skid steer-style construction equipment, fork-lifts and aerial man-lift work platforms. In any application, the presence of a SPOOL LOCK Solenoid, coupled with the proper design and use of the equipment, will help prevent unintended movement of hydraulic valves and the system components they operate.

In customer applications where the performance, mounting, or other uniquely demanding requirements cannot be met by modifying MSA’s SPOOL LOCK Solenoid reference design, Magnet-Schultz of America can provide a fully custom design.
